Resorts will run the craps and blackjack tournaments for us for free!
This will be done under the auspices of a "fun" event where the prizes
and nominal and there is no entry fee. That means that the winners
will collect their cash from me after the events. IF ANYONE GROUSES
ABOUT THIS PUBLIC (e.g., in r.g.p.), IT IS LIKELY THE EVENTS WILL BE
CANCELLED.
Note: I'm currently planning to collect $30 for the prize pool plus $5
extra. The "extra" will be used to tip the dealers and defray the
costs of the trophies. If anything is left over, it will contributed
to the reception (which will not be charged for separately).
The format for the events is still being worked out, but we are
constrained by the number of dealers that we'll have for the events.
We will probably have only one craps table and three blackjack tables.
We can't tie up the dealers/tables/room for more than four or five
hours, so the events will be faster than we might like. We may also
have to use a method that is not the best for tournaments ---
advancing the highest money winners to the finals instead of the top N
players from each table. It might also be necessary to restrict the
number of people that can enter (first-come, first-served) to stay
within our constraints.
Craps:
My understanding is that 14 players can use the craps table at once.
I think we can run two preliminary rounds and one final round, for a
maximum of 28 entries. Using 30 minute rounds, we should be able to
do the event in a couple of hours.
Blackjack:
Assuming we can get 7 spots at a table, we can run 21 players in a "flight".
It looks like we might need three flights (63 players max). Although
it would be nice to take a couple of players from each table and have
a second elimination round, I'm not sure we can do that and keep
within the time constraints. At worst, we will have to take the top 7
money winners and advance them to the finals.
Now, I realize that these are not optimal tournament conditions. I'm
perfectly willing to listen to suggestions, but we really do have to
limit both events to one afternoon. If you can't tolerate the
tournament structures, just don't enter.
