I want to let everyone know that we will be having a "Gentleman's Smoker (not
meant to be gender exclusive, by the way)" on the evening before ATLARGE II
begins. This is open to anyone who wishes to attend.
This means the event will take place on Thursday evening, March 20th. We
will try to move the dinner to as late a time as possible -- to allow those
who are coming into town that same evening after their workday, to arrive in
a timely manner.
Presumably, we will target the dinner for an 8:30 start, perhaps later (if
the restaurant will accommodate our request)
So far as THE PRECISE RESTAURANT is concerned, there is a motley trimunverate
of culinary professionals working on this task -- looking out for our
interests -- as we speak (well, actually it's just Tiger, Bruce Kramer, and
myself). Later, we will post the exact time and place of the dinner. In
coming weeks, Bruce has offered to search around the AC area for the best
deal for us. We will insist on a private room, or something close. Again,
we'll report back to the group in due time.
Right now I have confirmations from 11 persons (I'll post this list later to
the group) and 4 maybes. It's looking like 15-20 will show up -- which is
just about perfect (just like the one at BARGE in Las Vegas at the Rio last
year).
If you are unfamiliar with the idea, the smoker is essentially a get together
of players (many of whom do not know each other, and some who do) who will
eat a big meal, have a few drinks, tell some off-color jokes (depends upon if
***** ****** shows up), and generally have a hell of alot of fun. Also,
although it's called a "smoker" -- and expensive cigars will be the "fare
finale de jour" -- there will be plenty of non-smokers on hand (myself
included).
If you did not reply before by e-mail to me, and are now interested in
attending, please let me know. We need to have a rough estimate to make the
dinner reservations.
