Blackjack
I'm planning to use a 40%, 30%, 20%, 10% payout of the pool.
If I hear strong objections from the participants, I'll consider a
more traditional structure for a small tournament of 50%, 30%, 20%.
In addition, the first place will receive a nice engraved brass
plaque on solid walnut.
Craps
Again, the flatter payout structure of 40%, 30%, 20%, 10% seems
best for this event. A similar plaque will be awarded to first
place.
No-limit Hold'em
The standard Resorts payout schedule will be used. The most
recent information I have on this is 38%, 17%, 10%, 8%, 7%, 6%,
5%, 4%, 3%, 2%. Plaques will awarded for first through third
places. A special consolation prize of a copy of Lee Jones book,
_Low Limit Hold'em_ will be given to the first out (thanks to
Chuck Weinstock of Conjelco and the publisher). I'll also have a
special prize for the first one (if any) that wins a showdown
(must be called) with Presto (55).
Stud
Again, Resorts standard schedule will be used: 42%, 21%, 11%, 8%,
6%, 5%, 4%, 3%, and plaques will be awarded for first through
third places. Chuck and Dana Smith have arranged for a copy of
Roy West's Seven Card Stud book to be awarded to the "unluckiest
seven card stud player at ATLARGE". No special Presto prize here,
I'm afraid.
Best Overall Poker Player
Last year we gave a plaque for this honor, but JP was not too happy
to get yet a third plaque after placing in the top three in both
events. This year, we will be awarding a nice silk jacket with an
embroidered "Best All-Around Poker Champion/ATLARGE" on the vest.
The winner will be determined by the product of the two ratios of
finish position to number of entrants in the events. For example,
assume there are 65 hold'em players and 56 stud. Alice finishes
5th in both events for a score of
61/65 x 52/56 = 0.871
(Note: Since 4 people finished ahead of Alice, her position is
65 - 61 for hold'em and 56 - 4 in stud.)
Bob finishes 2nd in hold'em and 10th in stud for a score of
64/65 x 47/56 = 0.826
So Alice is ahead of Bob in the Best All-Around competition. In
the unlikely event of a tie, the jacket will go to the player with
the better finish in Hold'em.
A final bonus is being provided through the generousity of Bill Alan
(VC61_-_AT_-_aol.com). Bill will have name strips engraved and mailed to the
plaque winners after the event (entirely at his own expense -- Thanks,
Bill!). Be sure to give me your mailing address (if I don't already
have it) and how you want your name to read on the plaque if you win.
